Tampere’s summer of events has wrapped up – relive the highlights

Summer 2025 will be remembered in Tampere as a summer of events. Throughout the summer, the city was filled with numerous major sport events, cultural experiences, and festivals. The atmosphere of the events was also enjoyed at the Tampere Central Square Summer, which served as an event square open to everyone from 1 July to 3 September 2025. To celebrate Tampere’s vibrant summer of events, Central Square was transformed into a shared event space featuring game studios, activities, and entertainment for visitors of all ages.

The square hosted a wide range of events, including Tammerfest, the World Frisbee Golf Championships, the European Athletics U20 Championships, the IVV International Folksport event, and the Festival festival. The summer reached its peak with EuroBasket 2025, which turned the square into a roaring wolf’s den.

Warm late-summer weather added to the enjoyment at Central Square Summer.

The Central Square Summer event area opened on 1 July, welcoming visitors with a diverse selection of restaurants, side events, and a cozy, living room-like atmosphere. Culinary delights were served by Boulangerie Marco, Guru’s Kitchen & Bar, Kumma Bar & Street Kitchen, Los Pollos, Maranga, UkkoMetso, and Salsallada.

The season kicked off with Tammerfest, celebrating its 30th anniversary in mid-July. Later that month, the square came alive with the Frisbee Golf World Championships – held for the first time outside the United States, right here in Tampere and Nokia.

The European Athletics U20 Championships kicked off in Tampere on 6 August. The championships were launched with an opening ceremony open to all at Ratina’s Olympia Square, headlined by Käärijä. The excitement of athletics also took over Central Square Summer.

Ratina lit up as Käärijä’s energetic show opened the European Athletics U20 Championships.

The IVV International Folksport Olympiads arrived in the city on 12 August, bringing together around a thousand participants from around the world. The sports included walking, cycling, swimming, canoeing, and orienteering. The Olympic atmosphere was also enjoyed at the Olympic village at the Central Square.

The summer of events culminated when the EuroBasket Championship arrived to Tampere for the first time in 58 years. One of the preliminary rounds was played at Nokia Arena from 27 August to 3 September 2025, and the final games will be played in the Latvian capital, Riga. In addition to Finland, Lithuania, Germany, Montenegro, Great Britain, and Sweden played in the preliminary rounds in Tampere.

During the EuroBasket, the Central Square Summer turned into an exciting wolf’s den offering game studios and a relaxed program. Visitors played free basketball games and watched matches at the market square. The players of the Finnish national team, Susijengi, visited the square on Monday 25 August.

Fans also had a chance to meet the Susijengi at Laikunlava stage on Sunday 31 August. The event featured player interviews and live music.
